Parrots Can Be Lots Of Fun If You Like Pets

By: Jessie Geralds

Know What It Takes To Keep Parrots In Your Home

If you are planning on keeping parrots there are a number of things that you will need to take into consideration including things such as the pets that you already own, the amount of free space in your home, the amount of money that you are prepared to spend for your new acquisition, whether you have enough time to spare for your new companion, the noise levels in your home and how much noise can you and your family tolerate, the number of children in your home, and whether pets are allowed in your apartment or premises.

Keeping a Quaker parrot is an especially exciting experience, especially after you have taught it how to talk and in fact, once they get talking you will be able to hold conversations with them as well as get them to imitate certain sounds that will keep you regaled and enjoy their company no end.

Pets In The Home

The first point that you will need to address is the other pets in your home and so, if you already have cats, then keeping parrots in the home would not be such a good idea, though a dog might actually enjoy the company of parrots.

The second point that needs to be weighed is the amount of space in your home, which obviously should be large enough to house both parrot and its cage and you might also need to consider keeping a big cage that is floor standing which would suit Macaws, Amazons as well as African Grays, while the smaller varieties of parrots that would not require a large cage include Conures, Cockatiels as well as Parakeets.

Thirdly, you need to be sure of the amount of money that you are willing to spend for the welfare and upkeep of your parrots, as well as the amount you will have to pay to buy it. Typically, African Grays as well as Cockatoos would cost between two thousand and five thousand dollars while Amazons are going to set you back between thousand and two thousand dollars.

Next, you will need to be sure that you will have enough spare time to devote to parrots which of course are very sociable creatures and so, you would need to spend a minimum of half an hour each day with them.

The fifth aspect to owning parrots has to do with the amount of noise that you and your family members are able to tolerate and if you can tolerate the amount of noise that Macaws as well as Cockatoos make, you won’t have any problem keeping parrots in your home since they make the loudest noises.

In case there are small children living in the home you will need to be sure that they won’t mishandle your parrots and so it would be a good idea for you to introduce your feathered friends to the children in the proper manner and to also teach the children how to behave with these birds that are in fact, very delicate birds that need to be handled with utmost care.

Finally, you need to be sure that keeping pets is permitted in your building, though even if house rules do not permit keeping pets, you might still not face any trouble on this account if you opt for a tiny sized parrot.
