American Rottweilers Make Excellent Therapy Dogs

Most people do not realize that there are two types of Rottweilers. This is because there is very little difference between the two. The two types of Rottweilers are the American Rottweiler and the German Rottweiler. The German Rottweiler is shorter, stockier and more muscular than the American Rottweiler.
These dogs are happiest when performing a task. They often do not realize their strength and can be referred to as gentle bears. The American Rottweiler is a highly intelligent dog with a fun sense of humor. The male is quite large and range between eighty-five and one hundred thirty-five pounds. The female ranges between sixty and one hundred pounds.
The only difference between the American Rottweiler and the German Rottweiler is their size. The American Rottweiler is taller and thinner in the face and body while the German Rottweiler is shorter, stockier and more muscular.
If the American Rottweiler is not properly trained in obedience at an early age he may become a bully, which can lead to additional behavior problems. American Rottweilers are not difficult to train and should be trained. They can be stubborn dogs and therefore they need to know who the boss is. Their size alone can be very intimidating and results in making a good guard dog. They excel in sports such as carting, flyball, herding and agility.
They are now becoming known as excellent therapy dogs and are very good with the physically challenged. They are being trained much more in these therapy programs and the results have been incredibly positive. The Rottweiler is a good dog with a great sense of humor. He likes to work and he likes to please, therefore, he is happiest when performing tasks. He is a relatively healthy dog but should be checked immediately if any lumps or moles suddenly appear on his skin.
The American Rottweiler makes a very good family dog. He is intelligent and works very hard when asked to. This dog does great police work and because of its size is an excellent guard dog. In order to find a reputable American Rottweiler breeder you must ask your veterinarian, search the web or contact the American Kennel Club.
These breeders should be able to answer all of your questions about the breed and will ask you many pointed questions to see if you are actually ready to own an American Rottweiler. There are German Rottweiler breeders and American Rottweiler breeders and you should do your homework in advance so that you can tell the difference when looking at a Rottweiler.
These dogs make great pets and because of their size will become excellent guard dogs. They are not aware of their size and when their humor comes through it is quite silly.
