Getting To Your Feet -
Before you try to stand up on a wave, you should know the process on dry land first.
Lay your surfboard on the sand, check the fins wont break by pushing on the board, if your worried remove them. Get on your board like you would if you where paddling for a wave, then push off the board with your hands just below chest point. In a single motion you need to bring your knees inwards and land on the board, so that your dominant leg is at the tail of the surfboard, and your other leg stays above the middle.
When you move to position, stay low keeping your center of gravity low. Try to keep your weigh central, if you have to keep holding your board thats fine, so long as you get on your feet as quickly as possible.
If you crouch, and keep the weight on the center of the board, you will find it easier to balance, and all you should be worried about now is staying up.
Go over this process enough times on the sand, so that it is imprinted in your mind. Once you get out in the water, you tend to forget things in all the rush and excitement.
When you get out and try to stand up on a wave, take your time extending your arms, and make sure you are well balanced before standing up, then pop up to your feet quickly, while keeping your hands on the rail.
Once you have this mastered, you can start standing up quicker, and then try it just as you begin to drop down the face of the wave.
Now that you know the basics, all you need is practice, so get out there.
