What to Look for in iPod nano Holders
Lydia Vaughn
Congratulations on your new iPod nano! You're going to enjoy it. There's a couple accessories you'l want though, and the first is usually an iPod nano holder. Here's some tips to help you get started.
Deciding on an iPod nano holder can be more challenging than you think. You'll find different cases for different purposes, and in different styles.
When you look for holders you'll find everything from plastic belt clips to workout armbands, to high-end fashion statements. The level of protection from weather and bumping ranges widely as well.
Where will you use your nano?
Stop and think for a minute. How will you use the nano in your day? Will you listen during your commute? During a workout? While working around the house? Are you likely to drop your iPod nano or bump into it?
Before they're done, most people end up with a couple different nano holders. I have an armband for working out, but use a leather flip-top holder on the way to work weekdays.
For Working Out:
When working out you need to protect it from drops, bumps, and bangs. You'll want easy access to the iPod nano without it getting in the way. Most exercisers use an armband.
I prefer a sweat-resistant armband, to protect it from moisture. My Belkin neoprene armband has a clear film over the display and a clip-on cord keeper. The only problem is I can't easily see what I'm doing when I change playlists.
If you don't like armbands, make sure your holder has a slip-proof cover. I like a silicone iPod nano exterior, especially one that's thick enough to progect against bumps and drops.
The Work Day
In my consultant days, the details of my appearance mattered (perhaps too much). If you need a conservative, put-together image you should get a leather nano holder. Protect it from scratching by getting a holder with a lining. My favorite is made of nappa leather and has a velvet liner.
If a conservative image doesn't matter, I'm jealous. Read the next paragraphs to decide what level of practicality or style is right for you.
Common-Sense Features:
If you'll be outside much you might consider waterproof cases. Also think about whether you need a belt clip or perhaps a snap to help you keep track of the case.
If your iPod nano will be rattling around in a briefcase or purse, or if it's likely to get bumped or dropped often, be careful. You'll want to get a hard-sided case to protect your nano.
Going for style:
While a lot of iPod nano owners stop at practicality, some of us also look for fashion. We want our nanos to look a little less geeky, or to express a little style. Try for Cloe Dao's high-energy prints or Gilty Couture's metal cases with Swarovski accents. My website has a review of designer nano cases to show you some ideas.
I hope you have a better idea now of what you need in an iPod nano case. If not, feel free to stop by my website for a few more ideas. Enjoy your new iPod 3g nano!
