Reasons Why Drug Rehab Fails Many Celebrities
Chris Channing
The average addict that is looking to see help will commonly see celebrities go back to drug rehab centers again and again. If celebrities, who have access to the most expensive treatment options, can't overcome an addiction- what hope is there for the average person? I this case, it's best to see how difficult celebrities actually have it- and not get discouraged by this prospect.
Celebrities have always been able to escape the justice system because of their status with the media. This is seen with the event in which popular culture icons such as Paris Hilton avoided harsh jail sentences, serving three of her 45-day sentence of the original charges of driving offenses. Because they can get away with things much easier, they have a disregard for the penalties that most people hold.
It is also true that celebrities can obtain drugs on a much easier level, without risk getting caught. It is much more probably that a celebrity will be caught with drugs than caught buying drugs, as they can afford extra measures in obtaining illegal drugs in incognito. If celebrities can get drugs so easily and without repercussions, a simple visit to the drug rehabilitation center isn't going to do much good.
In many cases, the expensive treatments celebrities obtain are what will doom them to fail. A drug rehabilitation center that acts more like a resort is going to be taken much less seriously than a drug rehab center that only functions to help its users stay clean. In many cases, it is like the celebrity is just on a vacation- and therefore there is a lack of focus.
There is also less commitment on the celebrity's part, as they have more money and can afford multiple visits to a drug rehabilitation center. The average person can't simply check into a drug rehabilitation center every time they feel it is necessary, yet a celebrity can. This lack of commitment will result in a much lower rate of success unless the celebrity is truly inspired to give up the addiction.
Celebrities get a very weird reaction from things that society deems as unjust. Instead of being punished, celebrities will often we rewarded for going to a drug rehab center. The publicity that many media outlets give celebrities as a result of checking into such a place is enormous. And as they say, any publicity is good publicity. Such public displays are key in boosting sales, selling out concerts, or otherwise benefiting celebrities. This almost positively influences them to be drug addicts.
In Conclusion
Every time a celebrity goes to a drug rehabilitation center, there is usually a lesser chance of long term success because of the aforementioned reasons. This should not discourage the average recovering addict, who is more focused and willing to become an addict free patient for a long period of time- indefinitely. This isn't to say that celebrities can't overcome an addiction, but their environment is working against them in the process of them obtaining the help they need.
