When a person finds him or herself unable to stop using a drug they are called addicts. If a person is truly physically dependant on a drug there is a solution, a helping hand, this comes in addiction treatment. Addiction treatment can allow a participant to bring themselves out of their drug related problems and find an environment that they can feel safe in while striving to free themselves from drug use.

Treatment exists for every type of addiction imaginable. Each one strives towards the same goal, freeing the addict from drug dependency, but each is unique in its methods. Each one tries to guide the participating addict to a healthy life style free of drugs.

In order to convince a person they are in need of treatment interventions can be held by the friends and family member of the addict. An intervention is when the friends and family of the individual who is chemically dependant on a drug joins together to confront the addict. This is done in an attempt to convince the addict that they are indeed an addict and need help. This technique has proved very efficient form of convincing addicts that they need help. Ninety two percent of all addicts confronted in this way have been convinced to seek treatment and better their lives.

Alcoholism, one of the most common forms of addiction, is also the most ignored. Although alcoholism is not usually considered a physical dependency heavy alcoholics that have tried to make an immediate stop to their addiction have suffered physical drawbacks as well as illness.

A twelve step program exists to help addicts slowly learn to deal with stopping their addictions over the course of a few years. The courses are designed to help the addict accept that they have a problem and teach them how to rightfully deal with and solve it.

After an addict accepts that they have a problem the first step to becoming clean is detoxification. The system employed to clean the addict's body of all the harmful substances they have taken is called detoxification. Detoxification of drugs such as heroin, methadone, and various prescription drugs must be supervised when dealing with certain patients. The addict's vital signs are monitored as medication is given. Sweating, cramps, headaches, nausea, and vomiting are all symptoms that can occur during detoxification.

There are two commonly used drugs put to use during detoxification to relieve harmful symptoms. Buprenophex is an anticonvulsant and Klonepin relieves the patient of physical symptoms. During the administration of these drugs the patient must be closely monitored. Detoxification is a long strenuous process that can take up to three to seven days, as long as it takes to force the drugs out of the addicts system.

Addicts may not realize the harm they bring to all that care for them. Those who begin taking drugs may not realize how easily addiction can occur. These addiction treatments are the easiest ways for these addicts to find relief and safety. The addict can find a new life with a low risk of relapse.
