Music therapy has gained popularity over the past few years in treating patients suffering from different diseases. It uses music to heal patient's problems, namely behavioral problems, communication problems, stress and anxiety disorders, socializing and many more.

Music therapy is able to develop the skills of a person as well as keep them relaxed. This is why intensive care units even use music therapy as a treatment option.

Use of music as a cure for many diseases was found in the 16th century (History of Greece) where music along with dance was used to treat mental illness of many patients. Nowadays, music therapy is used to reduce stress and anxiety and helps the patient to learn stress management.

Music therapy can even heal a disease believe it or not. The most common effects of this type of treatment are peace of mind though. It calms a person and helps them to cope through chronic suffering.

A sign that music therapy is working would be if the mind is calming and starting to think positively about life. Many times, the patients will always feel negative about themselves and the situations they are in. So if you begin to feel better, you know music therapy is working for you.

Music therapy can cause soothing effect and can relax a person's mind and body. It is for this reason that music therapy is adopted as a secondary treatment along with traditional treatment for a particular disease.

The benefits of music therapy include that of reduced stress, anxiety, and pain. It can even help to control high blood pressure and the heart rate. Music can help those suffering from cancer or Alzheimer's disease.

Music therapy normally uses headphones and cds to help heal the patient. The patient will also explain the likes and dislikes he or she may have. This is crucial for helping the patient reach the end goal they have in mind.

Listening to positive lyrics can result in relaxing your mind and thinking positively but listening to negative lyrics can have opposite effect. It allows you to listen to your emotions and understand what you are feeling. Slow music is said to cause a soothing effect by reducing heart beat rate while opposite happens if you listen to fast music.

Depression can cause stress. If your serotonin level is too low, you may become depressed. This in turn can cause stress. By utilizing musical therapy, you can increase the levels of serotonin in your body.

Music therapy is beneficial from many points of view. It heals your mind, body, and soul. It helps you to relax and soothes your feelings. Not only that, but it doesn't hurt.
