The lost weight is all gained back and even more than what was lost using a crash diet program and other methods. The reason for this is simply that people on diet does not change the eating habits when dieting. Dieters have to diet sensibly and consume 1,000-1,200 calories a day as recommended by nutrionists. When dieting one should be rather cautious not to lose muscle in stead of fat. The purpose of dieting is to lose fat and not muscle.

Weight loss

Losing weight is losing fat, water and muscle. Managing weight is geared for success in the long run and lasting for lifetime. Medications like HRT, steroids and contraception pills are very often linked to weight gains.

Weight-loss dieting increases the risk of developing gallstones. Weight cycling, or losing and regaining weight repeatedly, may increase the risk of developing gallstones.

Weight reduction diets include:

*Medical supervision of diets

*Diets followed independantly

*Commercial diet organizations and centers

*Weight-loss support groups or behavior modification programs

*Diet supported by drugs and artificial food, prepackaged foods, foods with low calorie (VLCD), balanced diet plans supported by food supplements, 'Fad diets', diets medically supervised, diets provided in hospitals.

Diets

Diet affect the energy intake by limiting nutrition supply to the body. Fiber is an essential component to sustain healthy motion. In most cases diets result in fiasco gaining more weight than what was lost. This is due to the fact that our body is not designed to enagage in the constant process of losing and gaining weight. Therefore, diets cannot sustain weight loss and long-term health benefits. The temptation for food and old habits still linger.

The chief purpose of diets is to lose weight. But some of the athletes diet to gain weight in the form of muscles. Diets can be used to maintain a stable body weight. Diets without adequate nutrition, or diets without adequate calories in it could be dangerous for the kids.

Several kinds of diets are available in the market. But all weight loss diets resrticts the food intake to decrease the weight in the body. There are some athletes who follow dieting to increase the body weight, especially American football players. This give them an advantage with the heavy body over the opponents in the field.

Individuals who are underweight, such as those recovering from anorexia nervosa or starvation, may adopt weight-gain diets which, unlike those of athletes, have the goal of restoring normal levels of body fat, muscle, and stores of essential nutrients.

Diet

Dieting diet can cause some dieters to gain their weight. Studies have found that dieting may kick in childhood psychological state in some people and may fail in the long run.

Following are some of the side effects of dieting:

*Feeling hungry and wanting to eat prevously given up foods

*Lacking energy and drive

*Sad and unmotivated

*Lacking warmth and feeling dizzy

*And deprived of foods you enjoy.

Dieting is a stress on the body especially during pregnancy which causes hormone changes in the dieter. This can affect the child during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Doctors however, recommend dieting before pregnancy to lose weight. During dieting, especially with strong hypo caloric diets, the body is deprived of essential nutrients, like minerals and vitamins, most noticably vitamin B.

Dieting is a never ending process, as it creates a vicious circle of overeating and dieting. This creates problems more than it solves. Dieters will never stop dieting and will be always a prey to the dieting indusrty and its products. These dieters are doubly in risk of acquiring diabetes type-2 than the overweights who are not on any diet.

As a general rule, until you have seen your GP, I suggest you stop thinking about dieting and losing weight and instead concentrate on eating a healthy, balanced diet that contains a wide range of foods.
