A college diploma is basically an official piece of paper that states that the student or recipient has gone through all the necessary requirements for his or her tertiary level of education. A diploma for the collegiate level is usually given for an undergraduate course that lasts for four to five years.
A college diploma generally includes the name of the college or university that the student attended, the name of the diploma's recipient, and the course or degree that he or she completed. Academic awards like Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude are also indicated in the diploma for those students who graduated a course or degree with honors.
A collegiate diploma is also an academic award in itself. College diplomas usually vary in different countries, as well. For example, a diploma in Canada is given by the different colleges, while a bachelor's degree is awarded by universities. If you study in Australia, getting a diploma is still lower in degree than that of getting a bachelor's degree. In a country such as the United Kingdom, having a higher education certificate was equal to successfully completing 120 CATS Point or one year of university education. 240 credit point would merit you a Diploma of Higher Education.
Aside from all this, a diploma is an official document, as well as a symbol of success and discipline. It is usually the ultimate goal of a student since this simple piece of paper serves as a representation of all his or her hard work. It also serves as his or her passport to the working world. Parents also regard their children's diploma as a valuable possession as this is a symbol of an educational investment that has finally paid off.
Most employers, especially from top corporations, require that applicants wanting to get into their company possess a college diploma. This is because most careers in the corporate world need their employees to have at least a college degree.
