Have any clue what you want to do or be when you grow up? Hey, don’t fret if you have no idea whatsoever. Plenty of us are torn with the same dilemma. Well, if you’re anything like me, you’ll graduate from high school and search for the road less traveled. Yes sir, I wanted to do something original. A job/career that most wouldn’t dare to try. You know, one that required special skills that only the select few would ever possess. No, I’m not ranting on about a high-end position at NASA. I was thinking more along the lines of a modeling career. Yeah, you heard me right. It’s all about the runway and beautiful women. I thought modeling would be an ideal way for me to basically skip the college routine, make boat loads of cash, and travel around the world, all the while meeting gorgeous ladies. Pretty darn brilliant, huh? Hmm, well maybe not so much. As it turned out, a number of individuals had the same idea up their sleeve as well. And sadly there is not enough work for models to pay everyone’s bills. In reality this is a very cut-throat and demanding industry.
What would you suppose it takes to attain work for models? Let’s say you were an aspiring model, trying to get signed by an agency. There are certain things the agency will look for. Your height, complexion, facial structure, physique, smile, and personality will all play a part. As I’m sure you’ve already noticed, models are tall. And no agency is going to want to sign some shmuck with a bad attitude. Pretty people aren’t that difficult to find. They will just go with someone else, who works well with other and exudes a friendly, positive vibe. So the next time you assume there is plenty of work for models to go around, just remember that no one wants to work with a jerk or pretentious diva.
Okay, just to be clear on one thing, there is always more and more work for models. The key is really delving into the business with a determined attitude and confidence to spare. You have to know that you belong in the modeling world, and not tuck your tale and run at the first sign of trouble. The ones who make it stay strong and work their butts off. In short, modeling is just like any other field; competitive and harsh at times.
