The Ultimate Fighting Championship
Of all of the mixed martial arts tournaments that have arisen in the past few years, the ultimate fighting championship is perhaps the most well-known. Ultimate fighting is not exactly new thing, but it is a new incarnation of a type of competition that has gone on for centuries. Unlike competitions within martial arts schools, a mixed martial art competition is all about getting the advantage over the opponent whatever the cost. Although there are rules, they are few. The competition is designed to let people use whatever techniques their arts involve in order to be the most effective fighter possible.
Some ultimate fighters have trained in the more traditional martial arts, but many have them have also had quite a bit of experience street fighting as well. You see, no holds barred fighting differs a lot from many of the traditional martial arts. It doesn’t stress things like honor or even conventional forms. The point, basically, is to overcome your opponent by whatever means necessary. This can involve kicks, locks, head butts, and any other techniques that come in handy. The key is to win above all else.
Although ultimate fighting is the most popular mixed martial arts sport, there are many other ones in many different countries with slightly different rules. The problem with fighting competitions is the fewer rules there are, the more dangerous the event is for competitors. No one wants a broken rib or dislocated shoulder when they can avoid it, but these are some of the injuries that ultimate fighting competitors risk with every fight.
Nonetheless, the brutality of ultimate fighting is a big part of what attracts both spectators and competitors to the sport. The spectators want to see the best spectacle possible ? all out, no holds barred fighting. With the competitors, the competition is more about a chance to perfect their art. They want to be the strongest, most powerful, and most respected fighters in the world. Ultimate fighting gives them the chance to really prove that they are. Rather than just gaining acclaim within a particular martial arts school, they can gain fame as fighters able to overcome all takers. For these tremendous athletes, this is the ultimate goal: to be the very best in the world. Nothing else even comes close to the thrill of achieving that dream. The money is good, the fame is good, but the competition is the big thing.
