If you don’t have the room for a guest bedroom in your home, but you like to have people stay over and visit, the next best thing you can have is the sleeper sofa. This type of sleeper has long had a bad reputation as being an uncomfortable place to sleep, but they have come a long way since those days. If you have one of these, you do have to do some things to ensure that they remain pleasant for those who come to stay with you overnight.
The older type of sleeper sofa usually have a bar that runs under the middle of the mattress. On top of that, the mattress is often thin. Most who slept on this type of bed would wake up with a pain in the back, if they could fall asleep at all. Though some can fall asleep anywhere, most found them to be very hard to sleep on. Luckily, the newer sleeper sofa is made differently, and the mattresses are thicker and more comfortable. As with anything else, if you pay more for your sofa, it’s going to be more comfortable for your guests.
If you have a sleeper sofa, you may want to open it up once a month and let the mattress air and look for things that may have fallen inside. If you have children, this is essential. They may have stuffed food down in the sofa that could cause damage and a very bad smell. That smell might only be evident when the sofa is opened for guests. If you open them once a month to air out, you can find these problems and fix them before they become a huge problem. Also, be sure to have plenty of sheets that are the proper size for the mattress.
If you have an older sleeper sofa, you may want to look into getting a new mattress for it. Though here may be nothing you can do about the bar running through the middle, you may be able to find a more comfortable mattress for your guests. If you find you can’t buy a new one, and the bar is just too much for those sleeping on your sleeper sofa, you may instead want to look into getting a quality air mattress as an alternative for your guests. These can be stored easily and only need to be out when they are needed.
