The world of customized vehicles is increasing in popularity and like minded enthusiasts like to gather to swap ideas, enter competitions and be inspired. The hobby is thriving in the United States and there are several annual custom car shows across the land.
Some shows are run by organizations that take the show on tour, visiting several cities every year. DUB Magazine, the publication for all things, associated with customized vehicles, runs the Custom Auto Show and Concert National Tour. The tour takes in 16 US cities and is an exciting mix of auto show and live music. Singer Gwen Stefani was the highlight of the 2007 show. The schedule for 2008 has been announced and participating cities include Dallas, Miami, Memphis and Detroit.
The AutoRama World of Wheels Show is another of the custom car shows that goes on tour and visits locations in the USA and Canada. It is competitive and there are awards and cash prizes to be won at each event. These are indoor shows and are open to cars, motorcycles and trucks. There are a variety of exhibits, including sport compacts, customs, lowriders and hot rods. Sponsors have their own display areas and celebrities are invited. Dates for 2008 will include Boston, Indianapolis, Phoenix and Green Bay.
The World of Wheels Show, mainly sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts, is scheduled to take place in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Birmingham, Alabama in 2008. These custom car shows are indoor shows for cars, trucks and motorcycles with a competition element and there are also restored and antique vehicles. The dates are 11th, 12th and 13th January at the Chattanooga Convention Center and 8th, 9th and 10th February at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
The Annual Ocean City Hot Rod and Custom Car Show takes place at Ocean City Convention Center in Maryland. This is one of the custom car shows that attract all kinds of models from different eras, including hot rods. There are celebrity appearances and live entertainment. The dates for 2008 are 8th and 9th March.
The Cruisin’ Ocean City show dates are announced for 15th - 18th May 2008. It is held at different venues around the city and attracts over 3,000 hot rods, customs and street machines. It is one of the most high profile of the regular custom car shows and The Temptations soul group entertained the crowds in 2007.
The Ultimate Muscle Car and Truck Show is a fun event and American Muscle Cars from 1964 - 1974 are eligible to enter, along with any Big Motor Cars, trucks, off-road or Super Rigs. There were some star studded visitors in 2007, when actors from The Dukes of Hazard TV show brought that most famous of cars, the General Lee.
