Collecting Back Child Support
There are some things in life that we hope we never have to deal with, ever. When we start our families, we hope that we have chosen the right spouse and that the family will remain whole. We may even have a child before we are ready, but we hope the father will be a good one, even without the benefit of marriage. Sadly, that is not always the case. It is almost as if half of the population is sad and lost. When dads disappear, they do more than break hearts, they deprive their children as well. If that happens to your family, you need to know what to do when collecting back child support.
It’s not just dads that disappear. There are plenty of women that take off and leave their children with the father, never to be heard from again. They too should be paying child support. Whatever the case, collecting back child support is very difficult. If someone has moved out of state and you have no idea where they went, it can be down right impossible. That does not mean you should give up however. If you have someone’s Social Security Number, you have a good way to collect child support due to you and your children.
When you start working on collecting back child support, the official help you may get might not be much. That is when so many get discouraged. In some cases, the courts will say that once you find that person, you can then bring them the information and they will do what they can. Finding them is the hard part of collecting back child support, and that may be all on your shoulders. You can use the Social Security Number to find them if they get a job. They will have to give that number when working, so it is much easier to find them and garnish their wages as appropriate.
When you are going about collecting back child support, you should remember that no one can remain hidden forever. You may have to do without it for a while, which is a huge struggle, but there will come a time when the order is placed and they have to pay. Even then, you may not get your money, but they won’t have any either. Paying it back will be a legal matter for them. If you are really stuck, find someone who is well-versed in collecting child support in arrears. Find a good private investigator and allow them to do the work for you.
