An addiction to alcohol is no candid matter to discuss- it can alter one's life for the worst with almost no indication things are going downhill. Thus, it is important to find out an addiction to alcohol as soon as possible, so as to keep one's life on track regardless. Knowing the symptoms of alcohol addiction, then, is important to one's safety.

It is commonly said that those addicted to alcohol are simply to weak to quit their habits. But in reality, alcohol addiction will alter one's brain chemistry and actually create a physical dependence if one drinks enough and over an extended period of time. If this is the case, quitting alcohol isn't just a matter of willpower- it's a matter of getting your body through the arduous and painful process of detoxification.

When one goes about consuming alcohol, they are very likely to get a hangover the next morning. Because the weekdays usually mean that there is going to be school or work the next day for most people, drinking usually takes place on the weekends. But for alcoholics, drinking takes place on weekdays as well- and can give them hangovers the next morning that affects their school or employment life.

One's social life can also be affected by alcohol addiction. If you find that you are constantly being badgered by friends and family, and you resent this, it's very likely you have a problem with an addiction to drinking. You may also find yourself associating with the "wrong crowd" more in order to find friends who are willing to drink more often than that of your usual friends.

Risky behavior is also a clear indicator of alcohol addiction. If you have ever operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, you have committed a crime and can be put in jail for it if caught. This is an unforgiveable act that puts the lives of others in danger- and is a clear sign that one is addicted to alcohol if they must resort to such extreme measures.

Health problems are also a symptom that proves that alcohol can become a very real threat. In the case of health problems, this usually means that the drinker is already addicted to alcohol, and is probably addicted on the physical level. If that is the case, detoxification and rehabilitation will be necessary. Both acts can be painful or expensive, but are well worth it in the end.

In Conclusion

There just isn't any reason for anyone to let themselves ignore the signs of alcohol addiction. If you or someone you know is addicted to alcohol, it is important to get help as soon as possible. Keeping track of any symptoms will be necessary in determining the amount of help one needs- so be sure to keep aforementioned symptoms in mind and to visit a doctor for more information on the subject.
