Carpet Cleaners: A Short History and Overview
James Boehringer
First came the carpets and then the carpet cleaners were invented in 1860 in Chicago. The first carpet cleaner ever made was a hand held and a power operated vacuum was invented shortly thereafter by Cecil Booth in the 1900's.
After Cecil Booth's invention was completed, James Spangler created his own vacuum cleaner and sold it to Hoover, who just happened to be his cousin. That is how Hoover vacuums began. Today, Hoover dominates the vacuum cleaning industry and is a household name.
For all of the housewives out there, the carpet cleaner was labelled as a blessing because it was able to help in keeping the house clean and it only took a fraction of the time. Right from the very beginning, vacuum cleaners only had the ability to suck up dirt and dust, even though with the modern technology that we have these days, the inventors are able to create wet cleaners that can steam the carpets and kill all the germs at the same time.
We can all name numerous benefits to having carpets in our homes especially in the winter when it helps to keep your feet warm. Before the invention of the vacuum cleaners, the carpets had to be swept in order to keep them clean. Now with little effort your carpets can be cleaned easily as often as need be to keep the dust and dirt from building up. As commercial property became a part of our communities, the commercial vacuum cleaner was invented next because of the need for all the carpets requiring cleaning throughout office buildings and apartments.
The vacuum cleaner possesses a pump system and that is what allows it to operate. The pump system works by sucking up the air from the hose, which in turns sucks up the dust and dirt from anything that stands out in the hoses opening. In the inside of the vacuum cleaner, you will find a filtering system that has the ability to collect dirt and dust that can later be taken out and placed in the garbage.
There is a variety of vacuum cleaners on the market today: Canister, Upright, Robotic, Built-in, Backpack style, Hand held and Wet/Dry.
All of the different types of carpet cleaners are now available in several different sizes, styles, and they all offer different voltage and power sizes also.
A most recent upgrade in the vacuum cleaner industry is the cyclone carpet cleaner. This unit is unique in its construction because all the dust and dirt goes into a big cylinder. The way the cyclone carpet cleaner works is that it uses central air force in addition to a filtering system. The filters work in stages whereby the air that is being forced up into the cylinder will be cleaned and then put back out into the air through an outlet.
