How Sitting the Wrong Way Can Lead To Lifelong Health Problems
Christian Goodman
We spend almost all our time sitting down. Just think about it - during meals, we sit down, when at work, we sit down, when going to and from work, we sit down, even when we are at home, we sit down in front of the TV to wind down after work. We really do sit our way through daily life.
Naturally, there will be big problems that will come with that. Sitting down takes the weight off our feet, but it stresses our abdominal and back muscles because of the lack of support our bodies are getting from our feet. If you have bad sitting posture, it can cause serious health problems aside from the backaches and stiff necks that we normally get.
How?
Basically, sitting the wrong way (leaning too far forward or back) causes our abdominal and back muscles to tense and become inactive. when this happens, our body becomes imbalanced because these muscles are the ones that keep our body in balance. Weak muscles in these areas may lead to several serious health concerns.
When these muscles are not functioning properly, other muscles in the body take over to compensate. These muscles include the ones used for breathing - usually the diaphragm muscles - which leads to inefficient breathing. This then leads to our bodies being starved for oxygen.
Also, sitting the wrong way makes our neck muscles and all other connected muscles, such as the jaw and throat muscles, to stiffen up. This will lead to tension and blockages in the veins that bring oxygen-rich blood to the brain.
If you've already read my blogs, you know what lack of oxygen can lead to.
Fibromyalgia, which has no known cause and cure yet, is actually caused by a shortage of oxygen in the muscles.
Headaches and migraines are also caused by insufficient oxygen in the tissues and muscles around the head.
The brain will have insufficient oxygen because of the tension in the neck, and often supports your head in an askew way. This, I've found out, is the number one cause of vertigo and dizziness - it basically comes from the imbalance that happens between your eyes and ears.
Hypertension, TMJ, snoring, sleep apnea, obesity...and so on. Often, one of these sicknesses leads to many of the others, propagating a cruel cycle.
And all because of poor sitting posture!
All these illnesses can be prevented by sitting the right way. Many of my programs give suggestions on improving your health through simple exercises. These exercises put the body back in balance, making up for the countless times you sat the wrong way all these years.
If you are experiencing any of the illnesses mentioned, do yourself a favor and check our my programs. You will learn how to sit properly, and you will learn simple exercises, and give you freedom from the pain and discomfort theses illnesses may be causing - for good.
