Cheating, infidelity, an affair: we know them by different names, but by each we associate the straying of one partner in a marriage into sexual relations outside the boundaries of marriage. It is painful and emotional: this is infidelity.

Infidelity affects society along with the couple. Marriages that experience a cheating partner usually end in a divorce. Recently, a study found that about 90% of first time divorces were brought on by infidelity. This is a large, alarming figure.

Many researchers have different results on infidelity. Some researchers say that only 20% of divorces are caused by infidelity. Others continue to live together with growing dissatisfaction with one another. Another study revealed that about 55% of infidelity divorces were caused by cheating by men. The percentage of women cheated on their men is 45%.

It's in our best interest to find out the effects of infidelity on society and the nation as a whole. For certain, there can be no good to come from cheating and the breaking up of families. The worst affects are on children, who suffer sometimes more than parents after a divorce.

If a divorce does happen, children are at risk of psychological harm. They might feel insecure with their place in the world. Children thrive in a happy family, and do best with both male and female role models. Some couples choose to stay together after one of them strays simply because it may relieve the strain it would have on their children.

In a divorce, children are torn between two single-parent households. During their time apart, children miss out on the love their missing parent has to give. This has negative effects on children. Sometimes children grow violent and act out after this kind of disturbance in their world. Factor in new step-parents and a child's life becomes completely changed.

The children think both the parents neglect them. Therefore, they seek love elsewhere. Young girls often fall in love with people who are not worthy and get into more problems. Some children become drug addicts when they are short of parental love. In certain cases, divorce affects the education of the children and subsequently their future.

A marital affair is shakes the marital foundations of the family. Therefore, the effects of infidelity on society are indeed very bad. Infidelity causes separation of family members. It affects the physical and mental growth of the children. It may create a criminal in society. It may create a drug addict in society. It may create poor and weaker citizens to the country. In other words, increase of infidelity can damage the society and the country in the long run.
