How Hypnosis Can Help You
Lina Mavaega
Hypnosis is an ancient technique used by healing professionals long before medicine became a science. There are times when we hypnotize ourselves, unknowingly.
Do you remember a time when you were probably waiting for the bus and did not know how time flew while you were lost in your thoughts? People term this phenomenon as zoning out or daydreaming. Nevertheless it is actually a natural form of hypnosis.
Let's gain some insight into the field of hypnosis. What may be learned in the process could turn out to be truly surprising:
Let's get one fact straight. All hypnosis in actuality is self hypnosis. The hypnotherapist in reality is nothing but a catalyst in a reaction. That means that a hypnotherapist just helps you in the process. The patient is conscious in hypnosis and can end it at anytime as per his wish. Contrary to the popular belief, no one can make you do anything while in hypnosis, which you would not do otherwise.
Understanding the first part helps you to avoid negative self-hypnosis. Our conscious mind is what we use day in and day out and it accounts for only 10% of our mind. It is logical and analytical, it makes decisions (based on what influences are stored in our sub-conscious), exercises will power and is where are memory is recalled from.
The subconscious mind makes up about 90% of our brain. It is responsible for all the involuntary body functions such as blinking and breathing. The subconscious mind is child like in its make since it is creative, emotional and intuitive and at times does not understand logic. Subconscious mind also houses your predominant beliefs and values about yourself. Hence people who are negative in life are primarily because of the programming of the subconscious mind.
Your subconscious is continuously being programmed and re-programmed by our self-talk, daily events, encounters, and knowledge. We are always using self-talk even when you don't realize it, telling ourselves we're fat, successful, a failure, a smoker, we are what we talk, we program our subconscious mind to believe these things about ourselves.
Hypnosis is not a medical treatment and hypnotherapists for the most part are not medically trained professionals, so they are not working to give any form of medical treatment due to psychiatric illnesses, unless there is a doctor supervising.
These days, hypnosis is mostly used in kicking the cigarette and getting rid of phobias and illogical fears. However, many people do not know that hypnosis is quite effective in weight loss, facing examinations, stage presentations and other healing therapies.
Another point to be noted is that hypnosis does not treat physical problems. If a person has lost a limb, hypnosis cannot make the limb grow again, but can make the pseudo pains associated with limb loss go away.
Medical and dental professionals have used hypnotherapy to wholly or partially replace chemical anesthesia during surgeries.
Hypnosis is quiet useful, where the individual has a low drug tolerance due to heart condition. Hypnotic anesthesia also helps in faster recovery, shorter hospital confinements and better patient comfort.
Having a thorough knowledge of the benefits of hypnosis and understanding what hypnosis can help improve in your life you will be able to overcome may psychological problems. You can also learn to avoid the problems associated with negative self-hypnosis by learning to use positive reinforcements.
