Keeping Everything In Place With Your Home Business

One of the most important factors with a home business is staying organized. It's kind of like keeping your room cleaned. It's a daunting task that requires a little work everyday. The benefits however can last a life time.

For example, how many times have you gone to a website that requires a login name and password? You recognize the site, but of course the user name and password that you use for everything else doesn't work. You look around and wonder where that information is.

You swear to yourself that you wrote it down somewhere and you proceed to look through a pile of papers near your computer. After about ten minutes of that you give up. You start opening drawers when you finally realize that information is long gone.

You have no choice now but to re-open a new account and go through the whole process again. You get an email confirmation telling you that your new account should be active within a day or two. You almost take a hammer to your computer and start smashing it into a million pieces.

I managed to repeat this mistake for years until I finally made a change for the better. It's hard to change when you do things a certain way forever. But, if you force yourself to be aware, you will never have this problem again.

I finally came up with the bright idea to make a word file on my computer. I call it "passwords". I put this file on the bottom left of my desktop screen so I can always find it. It works like a charm.

If I am feeling motivated I also email this file to myself, so I have a back up of it. Naturally you would want to do this once a month or so to keep everything updated. It has been a godsend.

What I do next is take the website URL and the login information and I paste it into my file. I have a pretty large file now, BUT I know where everything is. I put other pertinent information in there as well.

Finally, I have a good habit. This will save you more time than you can imagine. I try to keep the login information the same against most peoples advice. It's not the end of the world if someone did get my login information for 90% of these sites anyways.

The website accounts I use most are usually the ones that force a user name on me. How ironic? It's kind of like juggling. You can usually remember some of the logins for the sites you are on a lot, but it's those occasional logins that can really throw you off.

Use this idea and you will notice that you can breathe easier. There is nothing more frustrating than wasting time searching for something you lost. If multiple people use your computer, then consider password protecting that file. Just don't forget that password. LOL
