Gynecomastia Treatment - How To Choose A Gynecomastia Treatment
Tom Valian
Man boobs (gynecomastia/male breasts) is a non-lethal, but embarrassing condition. Poorly understood, and highly damage to one's self esteem, man boobs is extremely common in men aged 15-24.
While it is very common, there is still no solid treatment option (medically) for gynecomastia. Yet, there has been a lot of hope offered by alternative treatment options for gynecomastia. The most important aspect of treating gynecomastia is making sure that one understands the causes and factors behind man boobs.
Gynecomastia Causes
Gynecomastia is often associated with a fatty diet. However, the real cause behind fat deposits in the male breasts involves more than just a fat-laden diet. While increased amounts of fat could possibly result in 'fat pouches', there are many healthy men who still have fat deposits under their breasts, giving the appearance of man boobs.
In almost every case, the real issue resulting in man boobs is actually a lack of proper hormone levels. This hormonal surge is usually found in men with poor eating and exercise habits. As such, while on the surface it appears that gynecomastia is caused by excess fat, this is not entirely true.
How Do I Know I Have Gynecomastia?
As phrases such as man boobs or male breasts would indicate, gynecomastia is defined as the condition where a man who is otherwise healthy experiences an increasing amount of fat deposits under the breasts especially in the nipple area, making it look like female-breasts.
Though many times the male breasts are developed in proportion to fat deposits on the belly and other parts of the body, with many men, they are bigger than is normal, which can be a reason for widespread ridicule and discomposure.
How To Get Rid Of Man Boobs
Many treatment options for gynecomastia have been offered, a large percentage of which are actually counter-productive:
This option is used by many men who have very little hope left. The fat/tissue build-up underneath the breasts are removed after surgically cutting through the upper layers of skin and muscle. Though this may seem to have treated gynecomastia, it doesn't work in the long run.
On top of this, there is a risk of developing permanent scar tissue underneath (which can mean permanent man boobs) makes this a poor choice. This procedure, as expected, is very expensive, and can cause many side-effects.
2. Prescription Medication - Widely prescribed, these drugs have yet to show any promise. The high costs and possible side effects make this a less-than-ideal option for most.
3. Deceivers - This category includes anything that can't treat male breasts, but is just used to make it appear that the man boobs don't exist anymore.
The most common form of a masker is that of the 'man boob vest'. These are tight fitting vests that try and give the superficial appearance of having been treated, when it is not true.
4. Exercises for man boobs - Though these work, one needs to have a good knowledge of which ones work, and pursue them diligently.
Secondly, this may not directly help with the gynecomastia that is caused by excessive hormonal fluctuations and can essentially only help with developing muscle in the chest.
The ideal treatment is to learn how to apply a treatment system that combines the various components of the treatment in a plan that effectively and quickly helps cure this embarrassing condition.
