Four Simple Poker Chip Tricks
Thom Riemersma
You know poker inside and out. You know all the best starting hands, you know all the sure fire tells, and you can play trash cards like they're the nuts. But the one thing you can't do is look cool at the poker table.
I am sure you have seen the regulars on Wednesday night TV. They play effortlessly with their poker chips. The butterfly, roll and shuffle are done with nonchalance and they give the impression of being hip players.
One of the fun things about poker is showing off. Big egos are part of the turf, and what better way to look cool than to do a few tricks with your poker chips? Here are some fun and easy ones to try.
The Pullover
This move is the predecessor to the shuffle. First you get a stack of about 6 to 8 poker chips and place your hand over them with your thumb and pointer finger on one side and the rest of your fingers on the opposite side. Now lift half the stack and set it to the side and with one swift motion, use your thumb and pointer finger to bring the poker chip stack that was left behind up and on top of the other stack. Easy cheesy.
The Finger Flip
Another fun trick is the finger flip. This is an easy one that is nevertheless impressive and will make you look cool in front of your friends. It is just making one chip jump over a small stack of poker chips. For the best success start with 3 chips.
Here is how you do it; keep a pile of 3 poker chips in one hand. Put your pointer finger and thumb in the middle and the rest of your fingers on the side of the pile. With these 3 fingers slide the rear 2 chips down and support them with your thumb, so they do not fall. Position these chips so they are as far back as you need and then, with your index finger flick the front chip to the rear. This trick needs a little finesse, so be sure to practice before you try to impress your friends.
The fun part of these little poker chip tricks is the fact that they are simple to do and you can do them over and over again. Enjoy handling your poker chips and get ready for the next step, how to annoy your gaming friends and make money doing it.
