To collect the contact information about your friends and family is very practical. By doing this you will have much better access to this type of information when you want to make a call, send out a letter or Christmas cards, or you need to invite them to your birthday party or your son's marriage.
Address books are also excellent for keeping control over business contacts as well as larger customers and service providers. Keeping an address book in the close proximity of your work phone or in your car will help you find the contacts you want much easier.
