For women hair loss is a big dilemma. The thought of going bald is something that they more than likely don't want to accept. Yet, just like experiencing their first wrinkle, women must come to grips and deal with hair loss the best way possible. Right off, women look at hair loss and blame their age. But as women grow older there are various circumstances causing hair loss, which develops over time. Regardless if female hair loss can be stopped or not, some women need to discover what causes hair loss, how to treat it, and how to live with it.

Moderate hair loss can be normal. The stage in which hair grows is an ongoing process. Typically, hair will grow steadily anywhere from 2 to 6 years at a rate of less than one inch each month. Over time hair will fall out and another hair will start to grow almost instantly. This gradual change of hair loss is something that pretty much goes unnoticed. However, a sudden loss of hair could be a sign that something is wrong. Determining the cause of a woman's hair loss can often be determined by her doctor. Doctors can definitely help you in correcting the problem. Once the problem is resolved her hair will start to grow back in the areas where thinning had been noticed.

Some common factors leading to female hair loss include:

Illness or Surgery where anesthesia was used. The anesthesia is actually able to bring on temporary hair loss that can usually last 3-6 months after the surgery has been performed..

Hormonal imbalance. Discrepancies in a woman's hormonal level can cause female hair loss, yet when brought back into alignment hair should begin to growback.

Having a baby can increase hair loss. During this time your hormones are unbalanced and this can cause your hair to fall out excessively. But once your hormones are balanced again you will not have any problems growing your hair back.

Medications. Medicines that are used to: prevent pregnancy, treat cancer, thin the blood, or assist with any bouts with depression may cause female hair loss. Stop taking the medicine and there should be a noticeable halt in hair loss and even provide for new hair growth.

Infections. Fungal infections of the scalp may cause female hair loss until aid in treating it is used. Hair will stop falling out when treated correctly.

So, whether a woman had recent hormonal changes due to any of these common factors listed above or is experiencing hair loss and can't link to any of these factors, a doctor should be contacted. More than likely a blood test will be done to find out if there is a problem with:

- Hypothyroidism

- An infection

- Any vitamin deficiencies or too much of a certain vitamins.

- Discrepancies in hormone levels.

Checking blood work results will allow the doctor to assess whether a woman's hair loss is something that he or she can treat. Female hair loss can also be a symptom that something is wrong within a woman's body and that it must be checked out. No matter what is causing a woman to lose her hair, it can be helped. Not allowing female hair loss to get too severe before seeing a doctor is the best way to ensure that it can be helped.
