There are many sleeping problems that a person can suffer from. There is sleep apnea, when people stop breathing in the middle of slumber. There is insomnia, in which people cannot sleep. However, a common problem that people suffer from is snoring. So, why do people snore?

Why People do Snore Has to do with Their Breathing

Have you ever awakened from sleep with a very dry throat? Have you noticed that you usually end up doing so when you have a stuffy nose? Well, breathing is the main reason why people do snore. Specifically, it all has to do with how a person breathes.

A person has two options as to how they can inhale and exhale: the mouth, and the nose. Most people are able to breath through their nose, but some people cannot, because of adenoid problems, or chronic allergies. In fact, allergies also have a lot to do with why people do snore.

When a person is suffering from allergies, the most common symptom is a congested nose. The mucus in the nose not only clogs the sinuses, but it also can run down into the throat. As a person breathes during slumber, the body has no choice but to breathe through their mouth, which is a reason why people do snore.

People who have chronic problems with their adenoids and their tonsils being swollen will also have trouble breathing. Medication can help with the swelling, but the most common way to get rid of the problem is to simply remove both the tonsils and the adenoids.

Why do people tend to snore more in the summer? Well, that is more of a generalization, but the answer to that observation has a lot to do with the overall air quality. For example, in the summer, pollen is very prevalent. Pollen is a common allergen, and is the source of a lot of nasal congestion.

Another reason might have to do with humidity. This is an interesting idea, because when a person has breathing problems a humidifier is usually a source of relief. However, after a certain point, humidity becomes a real problem, and the air becomes thick and hard to breathe. The labored breathing results in snoring.
