The History Behind Loreal Hair Products

L’Or?al hair products are made by the world’s largest cosmetics and beauty products company, L’Or?al Group. It is headquartered in a suburb of Paris, France, called Clichy. The company is extremely active in the dermatological and pharmaceutical fields, as well as holding the most patents in the nanotechnology industry in the United States. L’Or?al has products in several different product lines. These areas are: hair color, skin care, hair care, perfumes, make-up, sun protection. One of the major products are the loreal hair products. From The Beginning In 1907, a French chemist named Eugene Schueller developed a new hair-color method. He called it Aur?ole. That was the beginning of Loreal hair products. Young Eugene Schueller began making his own of what would later be known as Loreal hair products, which he sold to hairdressers in Paris. Schueller registered his company under the name of Soci't? Fran?aise de Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux ("Safe Hair Dye Company of France"), in 1909. From that point, the guiding principles of the company were research and innovation, for the sake of beauty. By 1920, Loreal had three chemists on staff. By 1950, they had 100 researchers. By 1984, that number had grown to 1,000. Now, it is near 2,000. The L’Oreal hair products have never sold more! Soon, L’Or?al went beyond hair products. They started making cleaning and beauty products. They now have over 500 brands and thousands of products, in almost every aspect of the beauty business. They have L’Oreal hair products, like hair color, permanents, and styling aids, but there are also cleaners, fragrances, and items for body and skin care. They are found in many places ? from supermarkets, to pharmacies, to health/beauty outlets, to perfumeries and even through direct mail and online. L’Oeal hair (and other) products are researched worldwide. There are two research and development centers in France, one in Japan, one in China, and one in the United States. In 1973, the L’Oreal hair product company purchased the company "Synth?labo," which merged in 1999 with the "Sanofi" company. The name was then changed to "Sanofi-Synthelabo." Once that company merged with "Aventis" in 2004, the name was changed again, becoming Sanofi-Aventis. In 2006, the L’Or?al hair products company agreed to take over the ethical cosmetics company "The Body Shop", for a 652 pound sterling. The L’Oreal slogan began as "Because I’m worth it" but was recently changed to "Because you’re worth it." They also have a line of children’s products for hair and body, called Loreal Kids. The slogan for that company is "Because we’re worth it too!"
