Wholesale Electronics Distributor Can Be Great

By: Spencer McNight

Wholesale Electronics Distributor

I have been involved in many different fields and careers, but being a wholesale electronics distributor is probably one of the strangest ones for me. Not that there is anything particularly exotic about being a distributor of wholesale electronics. The job is pretty routine, and the clients are pretty ordinary people for the most part. The profit margins are nice, the line of distribution is secure, and you’re guaranteed a continuous market share provided that you keep up with the technological trends.

The weird thing for me was that up until recently I wasn’t a big technological fan. As a matter of fact, until high school I was practically a Luddite. While other kids were playing computer games, I was walking out in the woods. I almost never watched TV, and rarely even went to movies. I certainly never played with computer games.

Nonetheless, I saw a need for a wholesale electronics distributor and jumped in. I did not start all at once. At first, I was involved in more mundane distribution. There was no local electronic parts retailer, and one of my friends was always complaining that he couldn’t find a place to get circuit components. As there are a lot of hobbyists in the neighborhood, I started to carry a few of the more commonly needed components in my little hardware store.

Step by step, my business grew. Soon, I was carrying consumer-electronics as well as a broad range of soldering tools, integrated circuits, and that sort of thing. My rent was going up, however, and my profit margins still weren’t enough to make my business very lucrative. I had quite a bit of inventory, and some capital. That is when I decided to become a wholesale electronics distributor.

With the Internet ? particularly eBay ? becoming a wholesale electronics distributor is easier than you might think. Although there are plenty of people in the business, there are plenty of local markets. people will buy from the closest distributor of the one with the best prices. If other wholesale electronics distributors can get a product there in three days and you can get it there in two days because you are located in the area, people will buy from you even if you are a smaller outfit. It is more of a niche market than you would expect it to be, even when you are selling TVs, computers, or other high-tech consumer electronics. I’m not saying that it was easy, but it definitely wasn’t as hard to get started is as I had expected.
