There are many reasons for visiting or living in Houston. It is an exciting city, offering culture, sport and entertainment. There is something for all the family and no one will find difficulty in choosing things to do in Houston. The city has many professional sports teams with excellent facilities for spectators. It also has artistic institutions with international reputations, such as the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet and Houston Symphony Orchestra. There is also a thriving Theatre District that provides stage plays and more. People can meet up with their friends to see a movie, listen to live music, watch a stand up comedy routine or relax in one of the bars or restaurants.

One of the main activities to be associated with this part of the world is space exploration. The Space Center Houston attracts visitors to its interactive exhibitions, moon rock collection and shuttle simulator. It is part of the NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center and it tells the story of space flights over the years.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science was established in 1909 and it has been housed in its present location since 1969. The exhibits include a planetarium, a butterfly center and an IMAX Theatre. The collection includes minerals, taxidermied animals, fossils, and plants. There is an operational replica of a steam engine and displays on space exploration and the oil industry. The museum should be on the list of things to do in Houston and it is a valuable resource for studying.

The mild weather of Texas offers lots of opportunities to participate in sport and the outdoor life. When looking for something to do in Houston, look no further than Memorial Park. This is one of the largest parks of its kind in America. Just about every major sport can be played here and there are facilities for softball, volleyball, tennis, swimming, and skating. There are also courses for running and cycling and fields to play soccer and rugby. Golf is extremely popular here and there is an 18-hole course. The park also contains the botanical gardens of the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.

For shopping addicts, the perfect destination is The Galleria, a complex with stores, offices, hotels and a private health club. There are well known stores such as Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue and many designer boutiques. The mall also has an ice rink and there are approximately 50 different places to eat.

Finding ways of occupying the children is not a problem here. The Splash Town Waterpark will give them plenty things to do in Houston. There are separate children’s areas with fun slides, tubes and tunnels. There is also a treehouse, a wave pool and restaurants for a meal or snack.
