Record Albums Can Be A Great Find

By: Kai LeBerge

Do You Remember Record Albums?

I have a lot of great memories of life before the age of ten. My mom was a single mother for a while, but she did a great job raising us and making us feel that all was well with the world. Some of my favorite memories were of when we would lie on the floor and watch a summer thunderstorm out the picture window in our living room, or when my mom would get out her eight track tapes or her record albums and she would dance around the room with us. I have a lot of great memories from those times, but those are two of my most treasured.

When I got into music, the record albums that my mom had were replaced by cassette tapes. You could still by vinyl then, but because cassettes were so easy to use and keep, most choose to have them instead. There were some that stuck with the record albums, but they were already on their way to obscurity by that point. I did own one though, and I think I still have it somewhere. Remarkably, it has stood the test of time while the cassettes I had from those years have long since disappeared or broken.

If you want new music on record albums, you may not be able to find them. Most music today is on compact disc or in digital form. It’s a far cry from the vinyl records that so many loved for so long. You may still find some cassettes in some places, but those have pretty much gone down the same lane as record albums. It is getting harder and harder to find them. Most cars now come with a CD player rather than a cassette player, and the digital forms of music are growing even more popular than the CD today.

Music formatting is constantly changing. That doesn’t mean record albums and eight tracks are forgotten. Some still use them and they won’t use anything else. Some have rather extensive and valuable collections of vinyl records, and you can find them if you love music from decades past. There are some great places online to find them, and some music stores have limited collections from which you can choose. Another good place to look for record albums is your local thrift store. Some have a large selection. You may find just what you are looking for there.
