Letter For Donation Is Great |

I work for a non-profit organization. In my present job I work with homeless families. We provide permanent supportive housing in clean safe apartments. The goal is to help the family regain financial stability and to teach new skills so that homelessness will not be an on-going pattern. The apartments are subsidized by federal government dollars, but there are many other things that are needed in working with the families that require funding.
Part of my job is to help raise the money needed to work with the families. My supervisor asked me to come up with a letter for donation that could be sent to the surrounding community members. We were going to concentrate on the civic organizations. It is difficult to write a letter for donation in a small community because if you outline the lives of the people you are working with the organization members will readily be able to identify who you are describing. I feel it is important to help the people you are asking funding from to understand the families that they will be helping. It is equally important to protect the confidentiality of the families.
I was working on a letter for donation when one of the clients came to my office with a question. I explained that I was working on a letter to a civic group to ask for funding to help pay for summer camps for the children of the families we were working with. The client asked if there was something that they could do to help. She has four children that would greatly benefit from summer camp. She has done a great deal of hard work in our program and will be ready to move out on her own within a few months. I asked her if I could share her success story with the civic organization. I told her that if her accomplishments were outlined in the letter for donation the members would recognize that the program does make a difference. She was honored to share her story and even volunteered to write up a short narrative of her journey to and through being homeless. Having her words included in the letter had a powerful impact. We not only received the money to pay for summer camps, but the organization is going to hold a fund raiser and donate the proceeds to our program for incidental costs.
It will be great to have a slush fund to fall back on. There are so many fees and other things needed raising children, and just getting people assistance. We can use the slush fund to help people pay for the cost of getting birth certificates and other things that are needed to obtain assistance. Including the personal stories of the people served is a great way to educate people in the community on what a program does.
