Bay Window CurtiansTake Time To Make |

We have taken on a project that may take the largest toll on our marriage that we ever faced. We are remodeling our home. Since we started the project we have had many couples mention to us that if you can survive remodeling you can survive anything. This has been said in jest, yet some days it is not as funny as others.
Our remodeling project has included the kitchen area, the back entrance and the windows of the living room. Our plan was to do the project in stages; however we quickly found out that the project work gets completed when the different professionals involved are able to work. As a result all the areas are under construction at the same time. In the living room and entry we have put in bay windows. The window installers were very fast and professional. This was the smoothest part of the project. Being the windows were in I decided that I would find bay window curtains. I wanted to have the window coverings picked out so that by the time the walls were painted the bay window curtains could be completed and hung. As with most window treatments the bay window curtains were quite expensive. I brought home several samples of material for my husband to look at. This is where our differences began.
We live on a lake and my husband could not understand why I would want to block the view of the lake with bay window curtains. He thought that we would leave this area uncovered so we could enjoy the view. The windows are energy efficient so the cold of winter and heat of summer was not supposed to be a factor. I was concerned that walkers on the path that runs close to our home would be looking into the house. My husband did not think that this was anything to be concerned about. I bought inexpensive bay window curtains for the entry way. These were small valances that complimented the room and could be switched out whenever we got tired of them. After many discussions and living with the bay window in the living room, my husband and I decided to compromise and buy pleated shades for the space and for go the bay window curtains. This was the first of what I am sure will be many compromises made during our remodeling project. I am sure that couples that do not have a strong relationship going into such a project would end up in divorce.
