I think that almost everyone who goes through art school has a period where they assume that they will be a world-famous artists pretty soon. Unfortunately, for most of us it doesn’t work out that way. Even if you have the talent, it can be next to impossible to be discovered. The art world is dominated by a handful of collectors, and you have to cater specifically to very certain tastes to make your mark as a world-famous, award-winning artist.
Fortunately, there is no shortage of art related work in the world. There are thousands of different art related jobs, and if you have the talent you’re sure to find something that appeals to you. The most obvious jobs related to art and in the field of graphic design and advertising. I was a little bit skeptical about a career in graphic design when I first checked it out. I thought that there would be very little opportunity for self-expression, but it turns out I was wrong. Once you get into the ranks of a respectable graphic design company, your clients will give you a lot of autonomy to get the job done. Your aesthetics play a role in everything you do, and some of it is quite creative.
Another popular art related job is fashion design. Fashion design is very appealing to a lot of artists because it combines aspects of art and crafts. A lot of modern art has gotten so abstract that there is little skill involved. It just involves putting together an interesting concept. Making the actual art is fairly easy. With fashion design and many other art related jobs, however, you often get to put actual pieces of clothing. You design the exact dimensions, discuss them with experts in manufacturing, and even get to do some of the sewing work yourself.
One of the most appealing art related jobs is working in comics. This used to be a niche field, but it has become more and more popular in recent years. People involved in comics can do everything from storyboarding to drawing panels to coming up with concept sketches for movie studios. Best of all, the artists often get a lot of fame in this field. Famous comic artists are nearly as well known as famous authors. If you’re looking for art related jobs, you should at least give us a thought. Even if you aren’t that interested in comics, it can still be one of the most exciting career jobs.
