Finding Reliable Motorcycle Reviews
Whether looking online or in a reputable magazine there are a couple things you need to keep in mind when reading different motorcycle reviews. The first is whether or not the source has experience with many different types of bikes. If they are specialists, that is fine for some motorcycle reviews, but it is better to read a review from someone who has a lot of riding experience.
What To Avoid When Reading Motorcycle Reviews
The first thing to be wary of, especially in online motorcycle reviews, is reviewers that have heavy sponsorship from one brand. You can bet that their motorcycle reviews will be slanted based on the financial commitment from the sponsoring brand. A Harley website will obviously have favorable motorcycle reviews for Harleys, sometimes at the expense of other brands.
The other thing to make sure of when looking at reviews is that they are not trying to pick the best bike, but rather that they are giving a comprehensive look at all the features on a variety of bikes. Each motorcycle has its own unique qualities and there is no one bike out there that is better than all others at everything, so be careful if a review states that such and such a bike is superior to all others.
You want to find reviews that highlight the benefits of each of the models they are reviewing. In addition to this you want to make sure that the motorcycle reviews have a variety of models that they are looking at. This can be tough because if they review too many the individual qualities of each bike could be easily overlooked and difficult to cover, whereas too little may leave out models and variants that may be of interest to you.
Usually motorcycle reviews that look at between three and five bikes are more than sufficient. In addition, make sure the bikes they are reviewing are comparable in price and size. Comparing unmatched models can prove to be an unfair representation of the different bikes.
A simple online search should product sufficient results and it is up to you the reader to try to find the ones that are truly well done. It is best to find reviews from people with plenty of real world riding experience who have the means to try many different bikes.
Mechanics make great reviewers as they see a lot of different models, for good and bad, and can generally compare the different varieties easily. Also, mechanics will usually see motorcycles of different brands, as the specialty is usually in motorcycles, not one brand over another.
