Motorcyle Jumping Can Be Dangerous

By: Rae Goodman

Motorcycle Jumping is a Sport for the Mind and the Body

There’s no question that motorcycle riders have always been equated with crazy stunts and near-reckless behavior. The thrill of the motorcycle just isn’t enough for some people; they have to take it further by adding yet another element of danger.

These brave souls engage in a sport called motorcycle jumping. Motorcycle jumping is a fascinating and adrenaline-rich sport that involves jumping your motorcycle over things, like fences or parked cars. A ramp is used to build up momentum and height to get the rider over the object to be jumped.

Recently, a new motorcycle jumping world record was set. Australian athlete Robbie Maddison jumped well over 322 on his motorcycle. This is an amazing feat that made motorcycle jumping enthusiasts around the world proud of the accomplishment.

If motorcycle jumping seems like something you would like to try, you will need a lot of practice. You should also keep in mind that it is a very difficult sport. It is physically and mentally grueling. You have to be an excellent rider, but you also need to know basic math and geometry ? and a bit of physics couldn’t hurt.

When you get started in motorcycle jumping, you will need to start with smaller ramps. You won’t have the intuition for when to accelerate and when to back off like veteran motorcycle jumping people. Starting with smaller ramps will let you learn when the best time to give the motorcycle more power is and when you should let momentum carry you.

If possible, get a veteran jumper to help you out. If you are able to learn from someone who has been through it all before, you have a better chance of reaching your goals and getting better at your chosen sport.

Not Just about Sports

Motorcycle jumping is not just about sports. In order to fully enjoy motorcycle jumping, you’ll want to own your own ramps. It’s difficult to find them ready-made, so you will probably need to make them.

By having a decent, working knowledge of math and geometry, you should be able to do all of the measurements necessary. Since your safety depends on getting the measurements right, it’s important that you know what you are doing and how it should be done.

If you get good enough one day, it might be you breaking the next world record. If you want to see your name in lights in Las Vegas and pioneer the next motorcycle jumping innovation, then there is no time like the present. Start riding and start practicing for the many jumps that lie ahead of you.
