Motorcycle Gloves Are Great To Have

By: Chris Sussan

Finding Quality Motorcycle Gloves

One overlooked and key thing to purchase when getting a motorcycle is a good pair of motorcycle gloves. People often remember to get a good helmet, jacket, pants and boots but often forget that one of the most important parts to good safety while riding is a nice pair of motorcycle gloves. Another thing to remember is that you do not want to get just one pair of motorcycle gloves and expect them to meet all your needs. You will probably need to purchase several pairs depending on the type of weather you will be riding in, the length of your ride, and how much comfort you want or can get away with.

Types of Motorcycle Gloves

There are five main types of gloves to choose from, and most riders will have some if not all of these different types of motorcycle gloves. The first kind of gloves is your standard summer gloves. These motorcycle gloves should provide some weather resistance, but most importantly should be comfortable.

Leather provides a good material for these gloves as in the event of a fall it will be far superior to cloth ones. Most have some lining, although many do not. This is completely optional and up to you based on a comfort level.

Another type of glove that is well suited for summer riding is fingerless gloves. These gloves provide the ultimate in comfort at a cost of safety. For riders that ride in extreme heat however these may be the only option as full gloves get too sweaty and can impede your grip.

One thing to definitely keep in mind with these gloves is sun protection. While people remember to put sunscreen on their face when riding, they often overlook their hands. Also, sun can come through the perforations in these motorcycle gloves and cause a nasty sunburn, so be aware to protect yourself at all times.

Medium weight gloves fall somewhere in between summer and winter gloves. They offer the protection of winter gloves with the comfort of summer ones. Some are lined and some are not, and others even have a removable lining for winter and summer use. These gloves come in a variety of styles and fits so select carefully.

Winter motorcycle gloves are much thicker than medium weight gloves. They are designed to keep your hands warm during the colder weather and offer protection in the event of a fall. Usually these motorcycle gloves are too warm to wear when the weather is nice, but are a must have if you are riding in any type of cold weather.

The final type of motorcycle gloves that you will need is rain gloves. Primarily these are simple covers to go over your existing gloves, but you can purchase specific rain gloves if you so desire. These are a must have if you plan to ride anywhere with inclement weather.
