Motorcycle Frames Can Be Pricey

By: Leigh Day

Building Your Own Bike Requires The Proper Motorcycle Frames

If you’re thinking of building your own motorcycle, you have to give a lot of thought as to what motorcycle frame you’re going to use. You can’t just stick any motorcycle frame on a bike and expect it to run smoothly. The frame should be light enough so that you can reach the speeds you want to reach, it should enable you to handle the bike as you want to, and it should be comfortable for you to sit on. If you’re new to building motorcycles, don’t be afraid to ask for assistance. There’s nothing worse than building something only to find out later that you went about it the wrong way. Plus, you don’t want to find out the hard way that you put the wrong motorcycle frame on a bike later on. Taking a spill on a bike because it has the wrong frame is one of the ways to find out you put the wrong one on but you definitely don’t want to learn that way.

Do Your Research

Before you start selecting a motorcycle frame, do some research of your own. Start with what type of engine you’re going to use and then research what motorcycle frames are ideal for that type of engine. Speed shouldn’t be your only focus. Comfort and handling are also important aspects to look at. You want the complete package when designing the ideal bike so give a lot of thought as to which motorcycle frame you’re going to use. Once you’ve found the perfect motorcycle frame, now you just have to locate one.

Salvage Yards

Salvage yards are perfect places to get motorcycle parts to build your own bike. You can find motorcycle frames of all different types and styles at these yards and then you can paint them and customize them to make them your own. You’ll also save a lot of money getting your frames from these types of places. If you’re new to building motorcycles, you might want to search salvage yards for parts until you’re confident in your abilities. Then, you can spend the money you want later on building the ultimate bike for you.

The Internet

The internet is another great way to get the motorcycle frame you need and you can often get great deals, especially if you get it from one of the internet auction sites such as Ebay. Make sure you’re getting what you expect, however, as many people can fudge a profile on the internet and you don’t realize you got the wrong motorcycle frame until it arrives on your doorstep. This goes with anything you may order off the internet but when it comes to motorcycles it’s especially important because getting the wrong parts, or the wrong sized parts, can be very dangerous.

Building your own motorcycle is both fun and rewarding, especially when you realize you got the prefect frame for the bike you wanted to build.
