Heated Motorcylce Grips Can Aid You

Adding Heated Motorcycle Grips

If you ride anywhere in North America, you are bound to run into cold weather at some point. One of the best ways to combat this is by using heated motorcycle grips. Installation of heated motorcycle grips is an easy process as long as you follow a few simple steps.

Installing Heated Motorcycle Grips on Your Bike

You can pay to have them professionally installed if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself, but one of the joys of owning your own bike is being able to work on it yourself. First you need to choose what heated motorcycle grips you want to install.

Finding manufacturers is easily done with a simple internet search. Once you have determined that the heated motorcycle grips you want to install are compatible with your bike, the next step is the installation.

Make sure that you have a clean open work area before you start any project. While installing them is not a complicated process, it can get dicey if you do not have the space to work in.

Another thing to consider is that once the heated motorcycle grips are installed the overall diameter of your handles will increase by the width of the grips. First step is to put the grips on the handles. Make sure you wrap them as tight as you possibly can. After they have been seated properly, you need to wire them up.

Usually there is extra wire provided with the grips so you want to plan what you will do with the extra wire once you have connected it. One method is to simply loop the wire around the handlebar then tie it down with a cable tie. Another option is to loop the wire in a circle then tie that under the bar.

The second method is probably preferred as it makes it easier to remove the heated motorcycle grips if you want, and in addition if secured properly the extra wire should be completely hidden from view. Most heated motorcycle grips do not have a thermostat, so make sure you have enough room on your handlebars for the switch.

On long rides it is nice to be able to turn the heaters off and on without having to stop and pull over. Your friends will thank you for this as unnecessary stops can ruin an otherwise enjoyable ride.

After you have everything mounted, follow the instructions included with the kit for hooking up the grips to your battery. Once that is complete, you should be done and all set to ride.
