2. With antiflammatory characteristics already, catechins in green tea is beneficial for reducing high cholesterol levels. Catechins is a type of polyphenol that is mostly found in green tea with smaller amounts found in black tea.

3. Black tea, oolong tea and green tea come from the Camella Sinesis plant. Before steaming and drying the green tea leaves are the only ones that are not fermented.

4. Researchers studied the effects of catechins on body fat reduction and weight loss on a test group of 35 Japanese men. They had similar weights based on there body mass index which is the measurement of body fat. Waist sizes were also taken into account for the test.

5. They were split up into 2 groups with one group drinking one bottle of oolong tea every day with green tea extract and 690 milligrams of catechins. The other half drank the exact amount of oolong tea with 22 milligrams of catechins.

7. Both groups were instructed to control their calorie and fat intake, eating from the same breakfast and dinner menu.

8. The study proved that after 3 months the men who drank the green tea extract lost 5.3 pounds compared to 2.9 pounds with the other group. The LDL bad cholesterol levels also went down and they experienced a decrease in their waist size and total body fat.

9. Steeping time and the amount of tea will vary the amount of catechins in each cup of green tea consumed. The recommended consumption of green tea is 4 cups a day and there are green tea supplements available at your local health food store.

This study proves the benefits of green tea for dieting and will help with the prevention of various diseases. Results will vary but obesity may be reduced with green tea extract incorporated in a daily diet.
