Breckenridge Colorado Ski Resorts - Should they be Eliminated?
Jim Mandl
You are considering Breckenridge Colorado Ski Resorts. Yes, Breckenridge is beautiful. Awesome, in fact! Whenever I visit I can't help just looking around at the beauty of the slopes, the town sitting at the base of the runs and the majesty of it all. So now I know that I want to go back to ski in Breckenridge. It is time to plan my ski vacation to Colorado.
So what is it with Breckenridge? Well, every trip I have taken there has been with a considerable group of skiers. From the beginning of the trip from Denver across the mountains to Breck we arrive in Ski country. Then we pull up to our ski resort, check in and settle in our rooms. We then play phone tag (thanks to the cell phones), decide to gather at the entrance to go out for the evening... continuing our ski trip. Here is one of the times it hit me; more later.
After gathering at the front entrance, we take what seems like forever to get moving, but we make our way down Main Street to get some food. We eat at the local brewery, and our ski trip off and running. After a great meal, we head back to our ski resort, discuss times to head out to the ski in the morning and separate to our rooms. And again it hits me.
The next three days of skiing in Breckenridge is perfect. The sun was out most of the time. We had great weather and the slopes were perfect. We ski all day every day, meeting for dinner and nightlife each night. The vacation was awesome, with the exception of the duh moment; now explained... we are only together part of the time.
It hit me soon after we arrived the first day and had been on my mind a few times since. What are we not all staying in the same place? Why are we at this resort, which is nice and all, but then each of us going our separate ways for the better part of each evening? Then it hit me; we should have rented a condo or home in Breckenridge. It was obvious, like the tree I was heading toward on the second day when I suddenly realize I cannot avoid the impending collision. Perfect; a Breckenridge home rental would have been the best of both worlds brought together. If we had the forethought to look for a condo rental or home rental we could have all staying in the same common area. We could have eaten in the condo. We could have continued our conversations. The party would never end, unless we retired to our room, in our condo. What a perfect solution!
So, on the last night of our trip (we went back to the Breckenridge Brew for more local brews), I brought up renting a condo on our next ski trip and we unanimously decided that is what we would do. Hopefully, this gets to you in time, before you book your Colorado ski vacation, so you can consider whether you want the isolation that comes with the resort world, or the added experience that can be had together when sharing your ski time and your personal time by renting a condo or home for your next ski vacation.
