As you can notice, psoriatic and rheumatoid arthritis do have differences and similarities and there are cases in which only lab tests and x-rays can differentiate between the two. In most cases, an improper diagnosis comes with patients suffering from symmetrical psoriatic arthritis as doctors might be led to believing they are dealing with rheumatoid arthritis. The good news is that treatment for both diseases is very similar. In most cases we will need the use of various anti inflammatory drugs, anti malarials and sometimes even Metotrexate. If an improper diagnosis was issued, there is still a big chance that the treatment issued will still work and the symptoms can disappear.
