Instead of staying at one of the many beautiful hotels why not, book yourself one of the many villas in Crete. There are quite a number of advantages to be gained from doing this and one is that you can decide when, where and what you do during your visit to this island in the Mediterranean.

The great thing about renting villas is that they almost feel like a home away from home and gives you a chance to really sample what the locals love about their country. In fact, renting a villa rather than staying in a hotel offers you the chance to explore and enjoy everything that the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean has to offer.

During your stay on the island, there are plenty of museums and archaeological sites that one can visit and learn everything there is to know about this island. However, although most of them are free to gain entry to there is a few which you will need to purchase tickets for.

If you are going to visit any of these museums or sites it is important to note that they are not open throughout the week. There are for example some that are only open a few hours throughout the day and are closed over the weekends and on Bank holidays. One such museum is the Historical Archives of Crete in the town of Chania. This is open from only 08.00 to 13.00 Monday through to Friday.

Along with learning about Crete's history, there are other things that you may want to do and which are a little more exciting (especially for the kids). If you want, why not book yourself on to a Pirate Ship Tour, which offers you the chance to visit some of the islands more secluded beaches.

As you leave port along the way, the trips have stopovers where you can play games or just take some photographs of the stunning scenery that you see. The games are organized by the crews of the two ships (Barbarossa and Captain Hook) and all dress up in full pirate regalia.

The other alternative to spending time as member of a pirate ship is to go on a dolphin tour. These tours take place throughout the summer months and leave from the harbour of Rethymno. You have a choice of going on either a two or 3-hour tour with the much longer one having a stop at the coastal village of Panormo where lunch can be purchased at one of its many tavernas.

As you can see from above staying in Villas in Crete offers you the chance to sample much of what this beautiful island has to offer. Plus there is no need to worry about having to rush back to your hotel for lunch or dinner as you decide when you eat and where.

Crete is a popular choice for holiday-makers who mainly book http://www.click4holidayhomes.com/crete) holiday villas in Crete.
