Stopping those marks on your carpets edges is easy when you know how. It will take some work but when done it will solve this problem once and for all. First make sure it not just dirt that the vacuum is missing. If it is use you hand tool on the vacuum to remove.

Air flow. This air flow can come from many different sources. The gap between the floor and maybe the wall. It depends on how your house is built or renovated.

Normally you get a small gap under the skirting or baseboard. This is where the carpet tucks into. And if you're unlucky where the air finds it way out. Leaving a black mark behind of dirty dust.

The problem is when you get air flow under the floor this air wants to find its way out anyway it can and if the floor is not fitted tight it blow up where ever it can, normally around the edge leaving a dirty black mark.

Here are some way to deal with this problem. You can get rolls of card that carpet fitters use under foam back carpets. Lay this under the underlay and tape the joins. Then run tape around the gap under the skirting

If you want to do it yourself find a product that used for removing the black soot after a fire this will absorbs the charge that's keeping the dirt bonded to the carpet fiber and make it easier to remove with normal cleaning.

Getting the edges and underlay air tight is the name of the game here. Miss a gape or hole and the air will punish you with black makes and having to lift the carpet a second time. So tale care and don't miss and holes or gaps.
