Are the drinks you get at the coffee shop making you fat? You may not have a clue that your morning drink has more than half of the amount of calories you should be consuming daily. This is one of the leading reasons why some people find they are putting on weight. They are stumped by it too because the amount of food they eat hasn't changed and neither has the amount of physical activity that they get.
You don't have to give up going to the coffee shop though in order to get control of the situation. Many of the coffee shops out there understand that people want delicious drinks that won't have so many calories associated with them. Many of them offer low fat and low calorie options.
One of the easiest ways to choose something that is low in fat and low in calories is to simply switch to regular coffee. This may be quite a change if you have been enjoying flavored drinks and cappuccino each morning for quite some time. You don't want to get regular coffee though and then load it up with flavors, creamer, and sugar. That is going to defeat what you are attempting to accomplish.
If the thought of black coffee doesn't work for you there are still some options. Try to avoid flavored syrups though as they do contain a large amount of calories. They are also full of sugar that can make you sluggish from the start of your day. Try sugar substitutes and low fact creamer to make your coffee better tasting for your own liking.
One of the easiest ways to cut back on the calories in your order at the coffee shop though is to not ask for the additional syrups for flavoring. They can really add some numbers to the overall intake that you are getting. Sure, they make your drink taste great but after a while you won't miss them. It is just going to take a while to get used to the taste of the basics again. Some places do offer sugar free syrups but they often have plenty of carbs in them so watch out.
Of course the amount of times you place an order at the coffee shop matters too. If you drop in before work, on your morning and afternoon break, and at lunch you may need to cut back. While the coffee shop owner will really like it, you may find it isn't the healthiest of choices for you.
The size of the cups of your coffee need to be taken into consideration as well. You will notice that most coffee shops offer several sizes for your convenience. Cutting back one size can really make a difference over the course of a week and a month. Some people like to go with the bigger size as it is only a few cents more but do you really need it?
The staff at most coffee shops will be very happy to assist you with low fat and low calorie options. They may be clearly marked on the menu or they can help you come up with something that works well for you. During a slower period of their day, tell them what your concerns are. Chances are they can offer you some really good ideas so you won't feel deprived when you come in for coffee.
