Travel Woes - Rising Fuel Prices And Dropping Dollar Values

If you are like me, you love to travel. The sad fact is it is becoming more of a strain on the old bank account as the costs rise. For those of us in the USA, the flailing dollar is not exactly helping make things any easier as well.

So, is the increase in travel expenses just a temporary event or permanent? Well, the future appears to be a mixed bag. Fuel prices probably are never going to drop much. The dollar, hopefully, will rebound at some point and that will definitely help.

Will falling dollar values and rising fuel prices stop us from traveling? No, but we all are going to need to cut costs where we can. Yes, that means we are going to have to get creative when it comes to spending our travel dollars.

Obviously, the biggest expense for most travelers is the actual transportation from one place to another. Specifically, we are talking flights in most cases. Is there any way to cut down on the cost of flying? Of course.

Not all flights are created the same price wise. The first factor is the time of year you are flying. To save a boat load of money, try flying during the off season for the location. You'll save money on the flight, lodgings and basically everything.

Ah, but what if you just have to go during the high season? Are there any options. One is to fly something called a charter flight. These are part time airlines that operate during high seasons. They are no frills flights, but pretty cheap.

The air courier system is often joked about, but the prices paid to fly are no joke. In exchange for carrying documents with you, the company sending them will pay a large part of the ticket price. Free tickets are rare, but you can save a ton.

You can also save money on the personal front. In short, we are talking about seriously roughing it. Despite the horror movies of the same name, Hostels are generally safe and a tremendously good deal. Follow the backpackers to find them.

A long used travel secret to save money on accomodations is to go local on accomodations. This means renting a room in a home. At nearly every train station in the world, there is usually a little table where cheap rooms are listed.

While it is true that the expense of traveling is going up and probably will continue to, the avid traveler should not be put off. Get creative and you can save some serious money. You might just find you also have a better time of it.
