Honda, an automaker based in Japan, had released the SI series which has the meaning "Sport Injected". SI had penetrated the car market both in North America and Japan where it originated, this had signified to be the most powerful model for Civic that are out there in the market.
In 1984, Honda Civic models had its first released. Upon entering the new millennium by the year 2002, the SI was once again redesigned and improved. However, its hatchback shape is still retained. Its Civic SI body shape is inspired by the concept of "New Bullet Form". Honda wants to arrive at the goal of creating a car which has a dynamic view and at the same time greater stability in traversing winding roads especially in the country side.
The design is known to many as the "Cult Car". Many enthusiasts are fascinated by its rapid design. The new versions had a K-series engine and a power plant known as the K20A3 i-VTEC. However, Civic SI's performance level was a disappointment to some fanatics.
There was a switch from a double-wish suspension to McPherson struts. It gave the car less of its sporty character. There was even an increase of approximately 150 pounds to its weight that affected the performance level of Honda Civic SI as to its speed along the road.
In 2006, another redesigning of Honda Civic SI occurred with some significant changes from its predecessors. Its new version comes with a 2.0 i-VTEC engine that can run to up to 197 horsepower. It also has a 6 speed manual transmission.
With sedan becoming more popular, Honda has also introduced its SI version for sedan-type in the year 2007. Buyers take a peak of its market debut at the Chicago Auto Show. Its new version has list of some improvements that includes vehicle stability assist, body-color-grille, darker silver wheel, deck lid spoiler, and a reversal of the color scheme of black or red as the secondary gauges. Perhaps, one might also be shocked when he sees the embroidered Honda Civic SI logo on its floor matting.
Perhaps, 2008 model would not be so different from its predecessors but with exception of some minor changes. Some minor changes are the revision of spring rate of the coupe, a new rear arm to be included in the upper arm, and a sensor that will monitor the tire pressure.
Improvements would just keeps on coming for Honda Civic SI after so many redesigns since 1984 up to satisfy the cravings for its followers and fanatics.
