Think your internet is running as fast as it should be? Are you paying for 5 meg service and think you might only be receiving 3? Internet speed tests are a quick and easy way to determine if your getting what you paid for.
You can check the homepage of your cable company or do a Google search and find hundreds of speed tests out there. Trying different ones at different times of the day will help you get a good idea of your actual speed.
I like the one at the PCnineoneone site. It has a cool race car interface too, which makes running the test fun. In just a few seconds you will know if your internet is performing the way it is supposed to be. The test will check both download and upload speeds for you.
Slow internet speeds could either mean a problem at the internet provider's end or a problem from within your machine. Running a series of internet speed tests might help you determine where to start troubleshooting your slow speeds.
Knowing there is a problem is the first step at determining whats going wrong and where. If its a speed issue then your internet provider will happily offer their tech support for troubleshooting the issue.
