There is a Ukrainian saying that people determine what kind of a person you are by how you look and how you act, then at last they will be able to value you for your intellect. Today, a great number of women from Europe and the United States have become very liberated. This has greatly changed the manner of dating traditions. However, this is not the case with Ukrainian ladies. Despite their being able to be financial independent, they still welcome romantic attentions and wooing of men. In fact, they expect it from the men they are seeing. So let us take note of the general rules of Ukrainian dating courtesy practices.
Knowing and understanding the Ukrainian dating courtesy traditions will make it possible for you to meet the expectations of your fiance. For example, you invited your lady to have dinner with you. The proper way to go about it is to either pick her up at her home or she could meet up with you in your hotel, and go together to the restaurant. Do not even hint that you could just see each other at the restaurant! Naturally, she expects you to pay for everything, even her ticket for the bus or the taxi.
Indeed, you will soon know that paying for everything while you are on a date is one of the foremost Ukrainian dating courtesy practice. Take to heart the saying: "you pray, I pay." This will help you remember what is expected of you. This practice should not diminish your regard for your fiance, as this is not done because they are impoverished or avaricious, but rather this is the tradition they hold. If a man is gallant enough to court a lady, then his gallantry should extend to providing for all the cost relating to their date.
Your good manners will be apparent by doing simple courtesies and showing concern such as opening doors for her and not entering the room until she's safely in, or even by just assisting her when she goes in or out of a cab or a bus. At dinner in the restaurant, you are expected to move her chair when she sits down or even when she stands up to be excused from the table, among other things. Although Ukrainian ladies are now smart and self-reliant, they have not lost their femininity and would always welcome the romantic trimmings of male courtship.
As I have already mentioned above, a lady would expect you to pay for her at the restaurant, cinema or theatre, etc. In addition, giving her small gifts would also be appropriate. If it is not some big event, you are celebrating, than you may stick with some flowers and candies.
Some important notes about flowers : always give your fiance bouquets of flowers in odd numbers, because arrangements with even number of flowers are for burials!
Furthermore, in Ukraine, yellow symbolizes goodbyes. If you give yellow flowers to a superstitious lady, she might take this as an omen that the relationship will not prosper. So unless it is your lady love's favorite color, then leave yellow flowers alone.
