Following Your Passions Down A Different Path

Debra Poneman, a woman whose passion had always been making a difference in people's lives, founded "Yes to Success" to help people create true success and prosperity, enjoy deep and lasting happiness, and how realize their biggest dreams. Her seminars started small with only 10-12 participants, but took off in a very short time with thousands of participants.

After appearing regularly on various radio and television talks shows, Debra began negotiations for her very own talk show. It seemed, on the outside at least, that she was on top of the world. She was successful beyond her wildest dreams, but she wasn't fulfilled. Something was missing.

Can your passions change? Absolutely, and in the blink of an eye! When Debra got her first glimpse of her new baby, she new her life was changing course. She left her successful career behind to become a stay at home mom. Leaving her career behind doesn't mean she threw her dreams out the window, though. She just needed to take a different path.

Debra left all the lonely hotel stays for bedtime kisses and tucking her kids into bed. She also joined another company, Melaleuca, a business in which many moms have found success because it's something that works around an unpredictable schedule.

As her children got older, Debra Poneman still dreamed of doing what she had always wanted to do, writing an inspirational book. One night, her son brought her one step closer to that reality. He simply asked her to watch a televised talent show with him.

Debra loved spending as much time as possible with her kids, so while she wasn't thrilled about watching a talent show, she was thrilled to sit with her son. She quickly realized this wasn't your typical talent show. This was a show that would ultimately become one of the most popular shows on television, American Idol. She was hooked!

Marci Shimoff loved with the show as well. Marci, a successful writer of inspirational books including a couple of "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books, was one of Debra Poneman's dearest friends. One night while discussing the outcome of an episode, like they had done so many times before, they suddenly realized the perfect title for a new book: "Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul."

American Idol contestants know all about living the dream, picking yourself up when you fall, and never giving up. That's exactly what Debra had always done, and it was exactly what she wanted to express to others. She didn't give up on her dreams just because she became a mother.

Through her inspirational book that told the stories of several of the American Idol contestants, Debra was able to show the world how average people can live out above-average dreams. Be the best teacher, banker, singer, or garbage collector you can be, regardless of what the Simon Cowell's of the world have to say about it!
