A common problem for newbies to eBay when starting a business is knowing what they could sell.
When i'm asked about what to sell on eBay by a newbie when first getting started on eBay I find like most people they stumble not really knowing where to turn for help and advice and are overwhelmed by the number of options available to them.
Bearing that thought in mind what is the overly excited new eBay budding entrepreneur supposed to do, isn't it a minefield choosing a product. Yes it can be for some but my first recommmendation is start with your passions what you really enjoy doing and see if there is a business opportunity there. Wouldn't you much rather be in business selling stuff you really get excited about?
If you think you have come up with a killer idea for a product to sell to your niche you need to find out if the product has sold in the past or is already being sold successfully. I am sure you would agree that any product you sell must of course have sufficient demand before selling it?
When I was first looking for ideas I started talking to family and friends and asked them what they liked to buy. At the time my sister was planning a hiking trip and was looking to buy a two man tent. When I did some research for her I found dozens of others looking for similar things.
When you visit a book store or a shop which sells speciaility magazines you can find books on almost any subject you can imagine. Try asking the owner which topics seem to be the most popular at the moment and you will come up with some great ideas.
eBay themselves have a section called eBay Seller Central where in the 'What's Hot' section they list what people are looking for or selling the most of. Of course this might be a source many others use but at least it's a starting point.
If you come across a popular product which you think can sell well don't put all your eggs in that one basket. Always be on the lookout to expand your product range with new additions. Remember you won't get far selling thermal underwear when it's the middle of the summer.
As of now you are still pretty much at a loss what to sell but just start applying some of these ideas and it won't be long before you are up and running.All I recommend is you build your business slowly and don't rush in to things until you have done enough research.
