Proper Wine Storage Extends Life Of Bottle's Contents

To many uninitiated proper wine storage simply means keeping it hidden from anyone under the legal drinking age, yet available then they want it. For most others it means being able to store it in the proper environment while protecting it from natural harm such as exposure to sunlight and violent temperature changes. In most circumstances wine storage for bottles expected to be consumed quickly, there are no restrictions. However, if planning to save a bottle for special occasions there are some environmental elements that harm the integrity of the beverage.

Sunlight is one of the single biggest threats to good wine, not so much because of the ultraviolet rays from the sun. Rather, the glass bottle tends to magnify the heat from the sun's ray's and can cause the contents to experience a series of hot to cold cycles if it remains exposed for several weeks or months. If the bottles are being kept in an open rack in or near the kitchen, proper wine storage would be to place the rack away from exposed windows.

Placing the wine bottles in a cabinet under the kitchen sink may seem like a convenient solution, but an appropriate wine storage area will help protect the wine from undue changes in humidity and temperature, two of the biggest killers of the taste of wine.

Racks Of All Sizes Available For Home Use

For those who like to have a small collection of wines, there are wine storage racks that can hold anywhere from six to 100 bottles of their favorite vintage. Short and squat, tall and thin or just about any size in between and made from a multitude of materials, wine storage racks can be found that are completely open, behind glass doors or totally closed with small ventilation fans and environmental controls built into the storage units.

Simple racks on which the bottles can perch until needed, can sit on countertops or can be large enough to be placed under counters. Where they are located in the home and in what environment is significantly more important than what they look like, as far as the wine is concerned. However, when seeking out wine storage most folks will want them to fit the d?cor of their home.

While it should not be difficult to find wine storage racks to match the rest of the furniture or that will into a specific area of the home, for those who really have trouble finding what they need, there are plenty of option plans allowing them to build one on their own.
